A Healthcare Renaissance: Ministerial Support Fuels Federal University of Allied Health Sciences’ Ascent to Excellence

In a recent development, the Honourable Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, received a team led by Prof. John Emaimo, the Vice Chancellor for the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu. The team, which also includes the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Cajetan Nwadinigwe and the Registrar,Barr. Dr.Chris Igbokwe paid a courtesy visit to the Minister in his office in Abuja to provide an update following the recent change in leadership at the federal ministry of health which brought Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako on board.

During the meeting, Prof. Emaimo presented an update on the activities of the university, particularly in relation to its upgrade approval by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in March, 2024.

He also briefed the Minister on the progress of the transition committee from the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy to university status, highlighting the successful production of the foundation document for a seamless takeoff.

Prof. Emaimo further informed the Minister that the university has had fruitful interactions with the National Universities Commission (NUC), with 18 programmes successfully verified and 16 programmes approved for takeoff. He emphasized the need for continuous support from the Ministry and advocated for the university to be considered for support from TETFUND.

In response, the Minister expressed his gratitude to the FUAHSE team, commending them for their teamwork and the swift progress made in just ten months. He assured them of the Ministry’s support and promised to consider their request for TETFUND assistance.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to the success and growth of the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences. Its future certainly looks bright under the leadership of Prof. Emaimo and with the backing of the Ministry for Health and Social Welfare.
