Prof. Omowunmi Mary Longe is an Associate Professor, the Deputy Head of Department, and Chair of the Smart Power and Energy Systems Research Group in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Science at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. She obtained her D.Ing. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Johannesburg in 2017. She previously earned her M.Eng. and B.Eng. (Hons) degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria.
She is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and has held several international leadership roles, including pioneering IEEE PES Women in Power Lead for South Africa and Southern Africa (2019–2021). Prof. Longe currently serves as the General Chair of SPETM 2026 and has contributed extensively to international conferences, mentorship programmes, and professional engineering initiatives.
In recognition of her impact in renewable energy, electromobility, and engineering education, she received the 2024 Women in Engineering and the Built Environment Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Johannesburg and was nominated for the 2026 Universitas 21 Award for climate action and global inclusivity.
Prof. Longe has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings and holds one patent. Her research interests include renewable energy technologies, intelligent power and energy systems, electromobility, artificial intelligence in energy systems, demand-side management, and smart energy management.
